Necton - Portuguese Company of Marine Cultures SA, came into being in 1997 with a view to build upon a project that began at the Superior Biotechnological School at Católica Portuguesa University, which had, as its objective, the production of microalgae. Then it began to develop itself in the biotechnology area, promoting technologies for the production of microalgae on an industrial scale. Later, it got involved in the production and commercialisation of traditional sea salt. Necton’s story is essentially based on a creative entrepreneurialism, which has resulted in two types of business: Microalgae and Traditional Sea Salt We are divided into two autonomous business units: the Microalgae Business Unit and the Traditional Sea Salt Business Unit.
